The Future is Now
The needs of our community have outgrown the space available to the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry at Grace Lutheran Church, the Pantry's first and only home. To address the issues of food security in our community, the Pantry needs more space to sort, package and distribute food.
In 2019, we were gifted with a home parsonage owned by Faith Lutheran Church in Glen Ellyn, and we began a campaign to raise funds specifically to renovate it to meet our growing needs. By March 2021, we accomplished our goal of raising $900,000. To support our goal, 100% of Pantry Board Members donated to the Capital Campaign. A $50,000 match by the JCS Arts, Health and Education Fund of the DuPage Foundation is the gift that pushed the Campaign over its goal.
The Village of Glen Ellyn Board of Trustees unanimously approved building plans for the transformation of the Pantry’s new home at 55 N. Park, at its February 2021 meeting. The new location will provide more convenient access for neighbors at risk of hunger closer to the Roosevelt Road corridor and public transportation. GreenLight Construction Group of West Chicago, with three generations of experience, was selected to do the construction which is scheduled for completion by the end of the year.
Glen Ellyn Food Pantry Breaks Ground on New Home
The Pantry officially broke ground on May 12, on its new headquarters at 55 N. Park Blvd., Glen Ellyn. The 100-year-old former parsonage of Faith Lutheran Church will be transformed to a full pantry and warehouse. The relocation from shared space inside Grace Lutheran Church where it was founded in 1979, to a larger, dedicated building is necessary to support the growing number of neighbors who rely on the Pantry for groceries and services.
Construction and renovation will begin in late Spring. Full relocation of Pantry staff and services is projected for the end of the year and will provide more convenient access for neighbors at risk of hunger closer to the Roosevelt Road corridor and public transportation. The completed project will feature 5,609 square feet of space including a 2-story warehouse which will replace the current 2-car garage, and will be fully compliant with the American Disabilities Act.

Pantry’s New Home FAQs
The Pantry is passionate about helping those experiencing food insecurity and ensuring those who have fallen on tough times receive proper nutrition. Dedicated space is needed to better serve working families by offering more open hours and additional food-centered services.
The building will continue to look like a residential home from the street but will be renovated to provide access on the side and back of the house, along with other modifications and improvements.
The words Cead Mile Failte, loosely translated in Gaelic to “A Hundred Thousand Welcomes,” are imprinted on a vintage plaque of unknown origin currently on the front door and will be relocated inside the building when the Pantry officially moves. Additional historical elements may be maintained and will be determined as construction progresses.
