Caregiving Center

Two years ago, the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry and the Glen Ellyn Bible Church decided to join in the effort of Making Hunger History in Glen Ellyn and surrounding communities.  As such, the Care Giving Center was born, and the first ‘serve’ took place on August 29, 2015.

The Caregiving Center was created to provide additional support to the under-resourced in Glen Ellyn and the surrounding towns in an environment of love and dignity. On the third Wednesday of each month, guests are offered a complimentary meal, groceries and other resources for basic necessities.    Its purpose is to offer groceries in a ‘supplemental’ role to a family's regular monthly food supply, ensuring guests can make ends meet from month to month.

In this partnership, The Glen Ellyn Food Pantry’s role is to provide shelf stable food products such as cereals, canned fruit, dried beans, pastas, and healthy snacks.  Fresh produce and fresh bread is available whenever possible.  No refrigerated foods, frozen items or fresh produce are available at Care Giving Center serves, however, guests are encouraged to make an appointment at the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry to receive perishable items such as milk, yogurt, frozen meat and fresh produce for themselves and/or their family.

On the night of the ‘serve’, the Care Giving Center provides a home cooked meal to all guests who visit, and offer prayer and fellowship to those attending, if desired.  Several times per year, the CGC will offer various other necessities such as winter coats, underwear, shoes or school supplies to guests.  It is always a fun night filled with an abundance of food and fellowship!

Glen Ellyn Food Pantry and the Caregiving Center continue to collaborate to bring nourishment and ministry to guests in our community who are experiencing food insecurity.  We look forward to what the future brings for both of these ministries, as we continually search out ways to meet the demands of the food insecure families in our communities.

The Care Giving Center is a part of Glen Ellyn Bible Church, located at 501 Hillside Avenue, Glen Ellyn, IL.  Doors open at 5 pm on the night of the ‘serve’, which is every third Wednesday of each month.  Dinner is served starting at 6 pm.  Doors are open for dinner and shopping until 8 pm.  Contact the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry for more information.
