About Us

The Glen Ellyn Food Pantry is now the Glen House Food Pantry!

Glen House reflects our roots in Glen Ellyn as well as our recent relocation to a renovated house on Park Boulevard. We are embracing a refreshed title and logo, a combination that is welcoming to the many towns we proudly serve throughout the county. We want to ensure that local folks who face food insecurity know that our Pantry is here to welcome them.

Our Story

In 1979, a youth group at Grace Lutheran Church in Glen Ellyn put their faith into action to help their neighbors at risk of hunger. That spirit inspired the mission of the Glen House Food Pantry and, more than 40 years later, the need for our services is greater than ever.

Today, the Glen House Food Pantry is an ecumenical endeavor of more than a dozen Glen Ellyn churches collaborating with the community and “making hunger history”. We serve everyone who lives, works, or attends school in DuPage County.

Glen House Food Pantry is a registered 501(c)(3) organization 100% privately funded through donations and grants. We have a Platinum rating on Candid (formerly GuideStar), its newest and highest level of recognition. Remarkably, 93 cents of every dollar goes directly to client services. We operate a budget that maintains only a 7% overhead, compared to 25% average spent by other nonprofits. Our work is possible thanks to a dedicated staff, more than 400 volunteers, an active board of directors and partners in the community.

What We Offer

Quality Groceries

At no-cost, we offer nutritious foods, such as fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, bread, milk, eggs, canned and boxed foods. . We also offer non-food items that cannot be purchased with food stamps including shampoo, soap, detergent, toilet paper and paper towels. Our Pantry’s home is organized like a grocery store, so neighbors get to choose the groceries they really need.

Food comes from grocery stores, community groups, individuals, and our food bank. And our team is working hard to ensure more ethnic foods are available to meet a wider range of our neighbor’s needs.

Friendly Assistance

We know that coming to a food pantry can be hard, but we try to make it easy. We also have translation tools that allow us to communicate in real-time in over 100 languages. Many of our clients are so happy after visiting, they express their appreciation:

  • “Thank you for treating me with such respect and dignity.”

  • “The people who manage and work at the pantry are very loving, kind and non-judgmental.  I feel as if I am treated like a family member.”

  • “My spirit is refreshed while my emotions have been uplifted after I visit the pantry.”

  • “Every step I take here is a gift.”

Convenient Service

With shopping hours four days a week, it’s easy to walk in or schedule time to visit. Our new location has lots of parking and is close to Roosevelt Road, a real plus for those taking public transportation.

Food pantries are one of the most flexible components of the social safety net and most readily available resource to help make ends meet. More and more people are experiencing food insecurity for the first time and we’re grateful to be in a position to help. The Pantry’s services can take some financial pressure off for families because every penny we save our neighbors by providing groceries at no cost, saves them money for essentials like rent, utilities, gas and child-care.
